Picking the right toothbrush can be an overwhelming experience. Well, it doesn’t have to be, but all of those shapes, sizes, and colors can make it much harder for some! While there is no specific scientific evidence that demonstrates one toothbrush is more effective at eliminating plaque than another, some brands boast that they are better than their competitors.
Whatever the case, what truly matters is that you brush correctly.
However, if you looking for some advice on how to find the right toothbrush, we insist that you keep in mind the following:
The right toothbrush will be one that allows for a firm grasp, and can easily access all areas of your mouth.
Unfortunately, most toothbrushes are individually packaged and sold in plastic, so it makes it difficult to determine which one will prove ideal for you. But, if you were to ask us which one will work well, it is one that has a head that is 1″ by 1/2″, has a handle that will provide for a tight grip, and that can easily move throughout your mouth and over your teeth.
A brief look into the manual versus electric toothbrush debate.
Some people might tell you that electric toothbrushes are much better than a regular/manual one. But, again, there is not any scientific evidence that supports that claim. On one hand, electric toothbrushes do motivate more people to brush their teeth, and are recommended for those that are disabled, or have trouble brushing their teeth because of limited manual dexterity.
On the other hand, electric toothbrushes need to stay charged or have their batteries changed to work, while manual brushes do not. Not to mention, electric brushes should be cleaned thoroughly after using, while manual brushes can be rinsed then thrown away after a few months of use and replaced. Lastly, some electric toothbrushes can cost a pretty penny, and their replacement heads can also be expensive.
In the end—and like we mentioned above—what matters the most is how often you brush. Typically, you should brush twice a day for a couple minutes, and do so gently. Sometimes, if you brush more often and do it vigorously, it can do more damage than good!
